not a good use for chocolate

michelle says this is just like a south park episode. freaky.

also, check out kristy’s cuisinart ad collection. more freaky. the newest ad creeps me out the most.

and this is too funny.

and … who is going to see knocked up with me? chris sent this clip of michael cera (arrested development) in a fake fight with apatow. nice.

rocky update

Posted by carrie on 24 May 2007 | Tagged as: General

the vet called and rocky is out of surgery with his lump removed and his teeth clean! yay!

ps- today is the 7 year anniversary of my officially becoming a divorcee. i wonder if i only remember the exact date the divorce was finalized because it’s one day before the date of the wedding? hmm.
if i were still married, i would be having my 11th anniversary tomorrow. whoa. and that means that in a few days i’ll have lived in austin for 11 years!

rockypants at the vet

Posted by carrie on 24 May 2007 | Tagged as: General

i dropped the rock off at the vet at 8am for his surgery. everyone send happy thoughts his way! i’m supposed to call at 2pm to check on him.

i made oatmeal cookies last night. they’re the flat, crisp kind rather than the thick, chewy kind, but yummy. plus since they’re so thin, it’s ok to eat like 5. right?

i love the new shirts at despair.com but i think i like their note about the tshirt sizes even better.

These aren’t some thick, itchy tees made in China by underfed children. Impossibly soft and comfortable, these shirts are proudly made in USA by shady and/or skanky-looking underfed 20-somethings who tend to like their shirts small and form-fitting. Customers are recommended to consider ordering a size larger than their standard t-shirt size if they are not familiar with the fit of American Apparel shirts or do not suffer from malnutrition.

busy weekend

Posted by carrie on 21 May 2007 | Tagged as: General

i only had plans to do a few things this weekend but i ended up doing social stuff from like 1:30pm to bedtime on both saturday and sunday. i did get the lawn mowed on friday night though! front AND back.

saturday afternoon i went to sunni’s shower and watched her open tons of cute baby stuff. then i went to dinner at my friend rebecca’s house. i hadn’t seen her in 5 years so it was great to catch up and meet her daughter. (!)

sunday I went to see chalk with josh, albert, kate, chris, annie, audrey and alan at 2pm. it was very funny and you should go see it. it did make me a little seasick. i correctly identified lala’s as the bar where the teachers had a happy hour. as it was actually supposed to be christmas in the movie, i couldn’t rely on the decor to tell me it was lala’s. so how did i know? because i recognized the tables and chairs. this was a little disturbing. i think i used to spend too much time there.

after the movie we stood outside talking in the non-humid 80’s weather and chris said, “carrie, let’s go have drinks on your porch!” i said something about how i really needed to clean the house, but of course, less than 2 minutes later, decided that porch drinking sounded way better. so audrey and alan went home :( but everyone else came to my house. jenn came up and we all sat on the porch drinking, listening to music and talking for the next seven to eight hours. there was a 45 minute break where i made us dinner. i haven’t been grocery shopping (except for a quick trip to CM last week) in weeks and weeks, so dinner was a little unusual – turkey burgers (i only had 3 buns so some people had to use bread and i only had 4 slices of cheese, but i have TONS of condiments!) and spinach ravioli with pesto. everyone seemed happy enough though. at about 11 when it was only jenn, annie and me still there, matt got home from work , had a turkey burger, and then we went back to the porch until midnight. it was a lovely sunday.

why i’m sad that the alamo is moving to sixth street

Posted by carrie on 18 May 2007 | Tagged as: General

a few times a year, i’ll hear about a friend of a friend who has gotten beat up on 6th street or read a blog about someone who was stabbed on red river, but usually the stories never make it into the paper. reading this about someone who was beat up during sxsw on 6th reminded me about it again. and then today i was reading the missed connections on craigslist and saw this post about someone getting jumped last night.

there are just too many drunk, violent idiots hanging out down there –

9 hours of sleep!

on a weeknight! i was in bed at 10:30pm last night. i felt very strange going to bed so early, but i was sooo tired. i feel really rested today. maybe this whole going to bed early thing is actually a good idea. hmm..

angela sent me this link about a new reality show on cbs this fall “kid nation” where children have to run a frontier town. wow.

1 dental implant! whoo!
i just got back from the oral surgeon with a stopover at my dentist and found out that my estimate for the implant and crown is… $4200.00. that’s with the $300 that my dental insurance is paying towards the crown. eek.
luckily i can wait until the new fiscal year in september to get this started so i’ll be able to put a ton of money in my flexible spending account for the year. it means that my monthly paychecks are going to be about $450 less a month for a year. argh. but since it will be pre-tax, i’ll only really be spending like $3400!
this all also means that i’m going to have a big space in the back of my mouth for approximately another 12 months since this is a 3 step process.
sigh.

the rock is very complicated

Posted by carrie on 15 May 2007 | Tagged as: General

i noticed over the weekend that rocky’s lipoma seemed a little bigger and now has weird bumpy things on it that look oozy. gross. so we went to the vet this morning to check it out. they aspirated it and didn’t find anything unusual but since it looks un-lipoma-like and is growing, it has to come off. as soon as the vet said ‘anaesthesia’ i started feeling faint. i know exactly what that word means- that i’ll be spending close to $1000 soon. sigh.

today’s total – $205. not bad for the visit, a blood panel (for the surgery), antibiotics (for the surgery), the aspiration, and a toenail trim. estimate for surgery – $672. this includes giving his teeth a once over while he’s under, provided he’s stable and they feel he’ll be ok for another few minutes. he’s not real cooperative about the tooth brush so i hope they’ll get to do that.

they also have to call his cardiologist to talk about the type and amount of anaesthesia to use because his SAS makes it trickier to put him under. that makes me nervous. poor rock. i think i’m going to have him go in next thursday since i’ll be working from home the next day and can watch him.

we had a very happy and exciting event on our morning walk! lynn had mentioned wanting her dog cooper and rocky to meet and we ran into them today. rocky didn’t growl or bark so we walked them near each other and they sniffed very nicely! we kept it short so they ended on a good note and let them sniff again when we ran into each other on the other side of the neighborhood loop. rocky might have a friend to walk and play with now! we’re going to have a joint walk soon to see how they do with that.

mother’s day

Posted by carrie on 14 May 2007 | Tagged as: General

i usually i try to spend mother’s day with friends so that i’m distracted and not moping around and feeling sad. this year i didn’t make plans because of my virus/cold thing so i decided that i was going to have a nice day of hanging out with the rock, spoiling myself, being fever free (yay!), and doing some things that my mom and i liked to do together.

the rock and i woke up at 9am and went for a walk and then i headed over to central market. it was pretty busy but since i got myself a large coffee to drink while navigating the crush, i didn’t mind so much. i bought supplies for another batch of chocolate chip cookies, lots of cheese to make a baked spaghetti casserole thing for dinner, a big piece of carrot cake, and a pretty, pink bouquet of flowers. when i got home i called my brother, my dad, and aunt jackie before mowing the front yard, edging and weed whacking (why do i keep mowing in flip-flops? i ALWAYS get fire ant bites!!).

i spent the afternoon making the cheesy casserole, chocolate chip cookies and iced tea (mom’s recipes), taking couch breaks with rocky, taking sun breaks on the back patio, and eventually eating the casserole (with cheesy garlic bread), all while watching ‘friends with money‘ and more of season 4 of buffy. i visited jenn and matt with cookies and pasta around 8 and then i ate my carrot cake while watching ‘desperate housewives’ and the season 4 finale of buffy.

i wimped out on calling my grandparents. i emailed my grandma and even that made me cry, so i think i made a wise decision.

i had a pretty good day with only a little crying. i kind of felt like my mom was hanging out with me all day, which was really nice. it was definitely a day she would have liked….except since she would have been visiting texas, we probably would have had a margarita before dinner… or two :)

i love you, mom!

fever…..

Posted by carrie on 11 May 2007 | Tagged as: General

my temperature hit 101 today. i hate having a fever. my skin hurts. wah.

jenn brought me soup, pretzels and diet 7up to sustain me. and i have enough dayquil and nyquil to last through the weekend so i should survive.

i’ve watched 7 episodes of buffy today (hush was awesome!), one episode of the sopranos, and two episodes of big love. thank goodness for tivo and dvds.

weird dreams

Posted by carrie on 10 May 2007 | Tagged as: General

i started getting a cold yesterday afternoon – ick. last night, rockypants hopped onto the bed around 2am and settled in with his head stretching across my tummy. usually this doesn’t bother my sleeping but last night, the heavy weight of his head, my cold, and the fact that my pajama pants were somehow twisted up around my waist made me have weird dreams. in all of the weird dreams, i was wearing one of those wide, tight 80s belts that went around your waist over the loose, long shirts with leggings. remember those?

i left work early today to come home and nap and had even weirder dreams. i hate colds.

i watched jesus camp after my nap and it was SCARY. definitely check it out.

time to refill my 7up glass. yum.

are you all aware that heb has chipotle bacon? why have we not had this yet? i can’t find a picture online but i saw it today in the heb ad. yum!!

jenn and i went for spring rolls and pho at pho thai son last night and yum it was good. i ate almost all my broth though so my lunch today is almost all meat and noodles. sigh.

dinner at jackie’s

Posted by carrie on 08 May 2007 | Tagged as: General

last night i went to dinner at jackie and david’s and after dinner we had some dove chocolates. we felt that the message inside jackie’s chocolate was mean, so she decided to send them an email.

Dear Dove,

The message I received this evening in my piece of Rich Dark Chocolate rudely said, ” Write a real letter not an email.” I don’t feel that I need a guilt trip when I indulge in chocolate.
Please reconsider this message in the future.

I would have written you a REAL letter but your package asked that comments be emailed to this address.

If you wish to reply, send me a REAL letter, and maybe some kinder, gentler chocolate messages.

Sincerely,

Jackie

i’ll let you know if she gets a response :)

cinco de mayo

audrey and i went to see todd snider at gruene hall on friday and he was awesome as usual. gruene hall is a great venue besides the lack of air conditioning. it was STEAMY in there. (also on friday, rocky was sleepy and cute. )

on saturday i took sunni and david a bunch of dvds and visited (she looks great and has a nice couch set up going in the living room for the bed rest) and then headed up to michelle and jimi’s for the annual crawfish boil. the crawfish were spicy and tasty as always and their new patio and pergola are awesome. then i headed back down south for the de la hoya/mayweather fight at jenn and matt’s. i got way more into it than i thought i would. it was actually a lot of fun to watch! i was sad that de la hoya didn’t win though. mayweather was such a jerk with that huge sombrero. (and thank you jenn for the delicious grilled shrimp wrapped in bacon! mmmm, shrimp and bacon.)

here’s a cute picture of jenn and me at the lower falls at mckinney falls state park on april 29th.

high average!

Posted by carrie on 03 May 2007 | Tagged as: General

marc and i didn’t come in 1st, 2nd or 3rd, but i got high women’s average! whoo! there’s always next season though.

i posted pictures from eeyore’s birthday. there aren’t many though. i always start looking around and forget to take pictures.

yesterday, adale emailed me the news that chatham college is now officially chatham university. i’m not sure how i feel about it, but i do like the little song that plays when you go to the website.

wednesday update

Posted by carrie on 02 May 2007 | Tagged as: General

you must watch this because it will make you happy!

if you live in south austin (like me!) and like to drink (like me!), you’ll love the news about spec’s and central market here.

isn’t it friday yet? i want it to be friday because audrey and i are going to see todd snider! and then on saturday i get to eat a lot of crawfish!

though it is the last day of the bowling season tomorrow and i’m close to getting the women’s high average award and we might be in the running to get third place. i guess that makes thursday worthwhile :)
