when tickets for the killers at stubb’s went on sale, i thought, “maybe i should buy four of these because it’s bound to sell out and i could maybe sell two and make enough so that i’d be getting the other two free.”

but then i second guessed myself and thought, “well maybe it won’t sell out because they’re also playing at ACL.”

so i didn’t do it.. and now people are offering money for them on craig’s list and selling them on ebay for $100 to $177 for two.

darn it!

i <3 todd snider

Todd Snider and the Nervous Wrecks were awesome at La Zona Rosa on Friday (a review/recap here). The encores were especially cool.

However, what the hell is up with people who pay $25 to go see a show and then stand there and have a yell conversation the ENTIRE time? I’m not saying you have to remain silent, but talking the ENTIRE time is rude and a waste of your money. Go sit in a bar and talk. Play the CD at your house and talk. Whatever. But I paid money to hear the band, not your story about the time you heard some other band at that place that has $1 drafts, or your story about the girl you’re dating and whether you’re going to go out with her tomorrow night, or your constant yells to all your other idiot friends about where your other idiot friends are. And yes, several people did ask them to stop talking. We solved the problem after about 3 songs by moving to the other side of the club. And every time we passed them on our way to the bar, they were STILL talking.
Ok, rant over.

This whole Oprah/Hermes incident is ridiculous!

A spokeswoman at Winfrey’s Harpo Productions confirmed the Daily News version of the story, saying that the incident was “Oprah’s ‘Crash’ moment” — a reference to the film in which racism unfolds in complex, subtle and surprising interactions.

Has Oprah lost her mind? I mean seriously. Does she not realize that this makes her look like a spoiled, rich bitch? I totally agree with From an this guy-

But after-hours shopping is a favor, a perk. Not a right. There’s nothing wrong with a store saying not tonight, madame, as long as the reason doesn’t have anything to do with skin color. It’s okay to say no to a celebrity, even when her name is Oprah.

UNION BUILDING, #4 West Mall

Criminal Trespass (2 counts) / Public Intoxication: Two non-UT subjects pushed a cleaning cart out of the way of a 1st floor men’s restroom and entered the restroom. The cleaning cart had a posted sign on it which indicated the restroom was closed for cleaning. Two female custodial services employees advised the subjects the restroom was closed. The subjects stated they “couldn’t hold it.” The subjects unzipped their pants and began to verify that they “couldn’t hold it.” Both subject were found to have consumed alcoholic beverages. Both subjects were issued a written criminal trespass warning and turned over to a sober friend who agreed to take the subjects home. The officer later observed one of the subjects in the driver’s seat of a running vehicle. That subject was found to be under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the point he was a physical endangerment to himself and others. Occurred on 6-26-05 at 2:30 AM.

mormons and new pics

Posted by carrie on 23 Jun 2005 | Tagged as: General

i got the pics up from jason’s gig last month. now i have to get up the san antonio pics from april! and pics from brent’s wedding.. i don’t even know where those are. sigh.

we watched saturday’s warrior last night at jenn’s. we kept having to stop it to make rachael explain the mormon belief system. it was .. interesting. jenn took a picture of me while we were watching and i think it captured how most of us looked for 90% of the movie – staring at screen in fascination/horror with mouth open.

the alamo downtown is having a mormon film night in July.

more personal ad woes

Posted by carrie on 23 Jun 2005 | Tagged as: General

This ad says to the reader, ‘Hey, I’m a really lonely sad guy who can’t even get a friend to take this picture of me. Plus I have a really ugly couch.’

‘Hi! I thought I’d be clever and bypass that thing where people don’t search profiles with no pictures by putting up a cartoon picture of Sade. Because that’s not idiotic at all. Plus I have multiple personalities or something. I don’t own a TV, but I watch every single type of TV show that exists!’

‘I own a car! Go me! And I like to find the right woman. Preferably one who likes to ride in cars!’ (Is this even a nice car? I mean it doesn’t look expensive or anything? Why is he so proud of it?)

NEVER include the photo of yourself in military gear and camo face paint aiming a gun. It scares us. Unless we’re weird.

Example of bad headline- ‘Newly Single’. ‘Oooh, ooh! Can I be your rebound girl? That sounds like fun!’

i went to my second austin city limits taping last night! we saw kathleen edwards (check out ‘back to me’) and john prine and it was excellent. i got goosebumps 3 times! and i managed to drink 4 free beers in 3 hours :) if you are in austin and have never been to an acl taping, you have to go. it’s kind of a pain in the ass with the having to go get the ’space available’ tickets and then hanging around outside the studio for 2 hours before taping, but it’s definitely worth it.

also i recommend trying out yoplait chocolate whips. yes, they’re yogurt and not really a dessert, but they’re pretty close and good for you :)

isabel sent me the news that eat n park is now selling smiley cookies online which is super exciting! but shipping for one dozen is $18, which sucks! if you order two dozen it works out to a little less than $1.50 a cookie which isn’t so bad. but if i order two dozen cookies will i eat them all in two weeks? hmmm….

can you believe this was a girl??

300 East Martin Luther King Blvd

Assist Outside Agency: A 1998 Toyota 4-door was stopped after a police officer observed a passenger in the vehicle throwing food items at a vehicle in the next traffic lane. The driver of the vehicle, a UT student, was found to have an outstanding outside agency arrest warrant for driving without a driver license. The student stated they had thrown food at the other car because the driver of that car had looked at her “weird” and revved his car’s engine. Occurred on 6-19-05 at 2:50 AM.

why are people so weird?

Posted by carrie on 17 Jun 2005 | Tagged as: General

so yesterday at work i asked the question, ‘why would someone put four school sized milks in the freezer?”
milk doesn’t freeze well! are they really going to drink milk that’s been frozen? or are they just trying to annoy me by taking up valuable freezer real estate? of course i will probably never know the answer to this question.

today i ask, ‘why the hell would anyone put a big bag of ice in the REFRIGERATOR?” is it perhaps so that it will take up an entire refrigerator shelf? or maybe because it will slowly melt and get EVERYTHING underneath it sopping wet?

sigh.

my friend amazon.com

Posted by carrie on 14 Jun 2005 | Tagged as: General

thanks to amazon.com’s cross-marketing emails, i found dressy bessy this morning. i love them! and they’re going to be playing at emo’s on july 7th.

oh, thank you, amazon.com!

and apparently we had a bomb scare at UT yesterday. i wonder if it will be in campus watch?

and i realized that i need to get my passport renewed or find my stupid birth certificate asap! i need either the passport or my driver’s license AND birth certificate when i go to cancun. and you’d think i’d be responsible enough to know where my birth certificate resides by the age of 31. but i don’t. i think it might be in that box of important stuff that’s probably being eaten by bugs and mice in the utility closet. maybe when (or if) i find it i should put it in my safe deposit box. oh, but that’s right. i can’t FIND THE KEY for my safe deposit box. sigh.

homestar runner!!

Posted by carrie on 13 Jun 2005 | Tagged as: General

So Friday I went to see Homestar Runner live! It was awesome. Of course :)

And Saturday and Sunday I unpacked more (yes, I do realized that I moved in March and it’s been 3 months already… why are there always those THINGS that you just can’t figure out if you should keep, or put in the closet, or sell, or put under the bed?) and watched TV and DVDs (check out Entourage if you haven’t seen it- Jeremy Piven is really funny) and read and just hung out. Jason didn’t get back from Kerrville til Sunday afternoon and Jenn is still out of town so I just hibernated and it was nice. Not that I’d want to do that every weekend or anything :)

And then Jason came home and we made lasagna and brownies and then collapsed onto the couch in a food coma. Yummy!

Reason number 1 that it’s not so good to be a famous person.

Oh and this is from Kristy’s blog. Holy crap! That guys got TWO stupid nicknames and he looks like he’s 30 and what is up with that pointing pose?

TGIF!

There’s an interesting follow-up article on the ex-professor who shot at the dean’s house and engineering building. It’s titled ‘Fear me, for I have the power to destroy you’. Yikes.

We went to dinner at Gino’s (yum, fettucine al fredo) last night before Jason packed up and headed to Kerrville. As he was gathering up clothes, I was putting things like gum, candy, a luna bar in his backpack. For a minute I felt like he was going off to summer camp and I should be careful not to put too much extra stuff in his pack or the other kids would make fun of him-
“Oooh, did your mommy pack you some candy, baby? Did she make you bring your allergy medicine?” It cracked me up.

I’m so excited for tonight! Shanna, Sunni, David and I are going to see Homestar Runner Live! at the Alamo! For once my crazy, way in advance planning has paid off. The shows sold out super fast, but I was able to get tickets. Yay! Homestar Runner rocks!

i am the most spoiled girl in austin!

i had already planned to go to playa del carmen in september with kelly and now jason and i decided to go to cancun in august!

who wants to go to hawaii in october??

trying new things

Posted by carrie on 09 Jun 2005 | Tagged as: General

so starting on the 1st i decided that for the next 30 days i was going to -

  • not smoke more than 1 pack of cigarettes a week
  • not drink more than twice a week
  • eat a vegetarian diet
  • exercise at least 3 times a week
  • i’ve been doing well so far. i ate some beans with chicken broth but i forgave myself for that one :)

as part of the exercise goal, jason and i started playing tennis at the high school down the street a couple of weeks ago and it’s been fun even though it’s really hot and i’m not so into sweating! i’d been using robby’s racket for a few weeks and decided it was timeto buy my own over the weekend. of course i had to buy the $90 one. it’s either this one or this one. now all i need is a little tennis skirt! or maybe a skort..

sunni and i went to the health fair yesterday and scored some free toothbrushes, free popcorn, free bandaids (see a theme here?)…. i also found out that my body fat is 24.5% and my bmi is 22.9. being tall sure is nice! i can gain 15-20 pounds and still be in the ‘healthy’ range! i also got a 5 pin acupuncture treatment! my first one ever. and i can now say that it’s true that it doesn’t hurt. i think i’m going to schedule an appointment at the student clinic soon to try it out for real.

since jenn went to florida (sigh), i have access to a washer/dryer for a whole 5 days! and full use of the tiki bar. jason and i hung out there last night while having our after dinner beers. i’ve been cuddling richard and the little man a lot so that they don’t miss their mommy so much. i’m pretty sure that all the cat petting is going to have me an allergic mess by monday, but they’re so sweet.

and today is the first day of summer bowling so i need to go sweat my way across campus. hmm… does bowling count as exercise?

Try reading this sentence aloud without taking a breath-
“A passenger inside the vehicle opened the door, leaned out and exhibited an extreme involuntary physical reaction to the over-consumption of an alcoholic beverage.”

    1900 University

Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor (2 counts): A UT police officer observed a Chevrolet Trailblazer stopped in the middle of the roadway. A passenger inside the vehicle opened the door, leaned out and exhibited an extreme involuntary physical reaction to the over-consumption of an alcoholic beverage. That passenger and a second passenger inside the vehicle were both found to be UT students who were under the age of 21. Both students were found to have consumed alcoholic beverages.
