Shanna, Sunni, David and went to see Homestar Runner Live! at the Alamo! Once again my crazy, way in advance planning paid off. The shows sold out super fast, but we got tickets. Yay! Homestar Runner rocks!
They brought a DVD with them that had some clips from the DVD available on the site, some of Strong Bad's emails and some other stuff that they'd prepared for other talks they'd given. They said they normally make a short film with the Homestar puppet in the city where they're speaking but they hadn't had time to do it for Friday. So, the people that went on Saturday might have gotten an Austin puppet film, but we didn't :(
First they had two audience members do karaoke to the limozeen version of grumblecakes (watch the email and then click on the word "cassette" at the end to hear the original version of the song) and "everybody to the limit"- also known as "Fhqwhgads"(go here to download the song). (Interesting bit of info - When I was looking at the Homestar Runner wiki to find which email 'grumblecakes' was in, I found out that Matt has done some songs for Aqua Teen Hunger Force.)
Then they showed clips of how they did the voices, some other short stuff, and some emails. They showed the email that the first Teen Girl Squad was in, which made me happy :) It was so funny to hear Strong Bad's voice coming out of a person's mouth.
They answered some questions until they were told to quit at 11:30 and then a bunch of people ran up to the front to get things signed, pictures taken, etc. I made Shanna stay with me so I could get my picture taken with the Homestar puppet. I needed some proof that I had been there! The Alamo turned off the air I think so we'd all get out of there -it was super hot by the time our section of the line got up to the front.
Shanna very kindly took my pic after I excitedly blabbered something to Matt about how we used to order stuff from the website back when their parents shipped out the orders and they'd throw about 50 coasters and tattoos in the box (now you get ONE coaster if you spend like $25 or something) and they'd hand-drawn thank you notes and stuff. He said something back like, 'Wow! That was like a hundred years ago!" and then posed for the picture. It was cool.
And then we went to the Gingerman and sipped on refreshing hefeweizen til closing time.
